MixTape Fridays – 2bougie2strong Mix #1

Today’s mix is my first all hip-hop podcast for the site. So, if you already know that it ain’t your thing– best to check back in when I’m back to one of my pop-folk-eclectic grooves.  For anyone who’s been listening this far,  The O’Pinionated Mix podcasts will usually be more comprehensive across all my tastes in popular music, and the mixes with a concentration in hip-hop, funk and soul, will be designated with the 2bougie2strong moniker.

Putting together these weekly podcasts has made me quite nostalgic for my college radio days, and I’m seriously missing my on-air, crate-digging cohort from those days– one Mr. Andrew Flurry.  This mix was concieved as a direct shout-out to Flurry, and a little log of what I’ve been listening to since the years when he singlehandedly made a hip-hop convert out of me (by lending me the trifecta of 3 Feet High and Rising, It Takes A Nation of Millions… and Paul’s Boutique in 1989).

It is for this reason that the era of these tracks extends primarily from late 90′s to the present.  Also, Andrew currently lives in the Bay Area.  This partly accounts for the primarily East Coast flavor of this mix –in spite of the fact that the left coast is one of the great contributors to the  boho-rap subgenres that comprise my consistently non-top40rap tastes.  I promise that I will make up for the lack of Bay representation in a later 2bougie2strong mix.

Finally, as a call-back and metaphorical liquor-spill to our 5 semester show “FCC Tha Police” on WAMH, I have titled this mix “Back The FCC Up”.   Right click and get ready to bump it in your jeep, at your block party, or feed it directly into your cranium.  Playlist is below the fold.
